Ida and cooler weather to stay

Tropical Storm Ida developed this afternoon in the extreme southwestern Caribbean. Looking at the Water Vapor Floater we can see the storm is strengthening. The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center is for Ida to move inland on the east coast of Nicaragua and move northwestward across eastern Honduras and emerge into the western Caribbean Saturday afternoon as a depression.
The current satellite presentation shows Ida strengthening and possibly very close to hurricane status. This is due to the developing central dense overcast and deeper convection within the center of the CDO.
For now, people in Central America are feeling the affects of Ida. Long term, those in the coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico should monitor the NHC and Ida's track through the weekend and early part of next week.
based on the timing of the forecast models, high pressure will dominate the south. This will act as a blocking mechanism for Ida and keep Ida in the Caribbean through day 5 (Monday).

With high pressure reigning over the south, we can expect to see a continued cool airmass through the weekend.
temperatures will rebound into the upper 70's by Sunday, maybe a few scattered 80F. So make sure your outdoor plans are scheduled. It will be a very nice weekend.

Cooler temps, a full moon and the tropics

With the passage of the cold front late Saturday night we are enjoying some much cooler weather across North Florida. In Jacksonville the high today was 71F with a light northeast wind. Wednesday's forecast is a high of 77F and a low in the morning of 53F.
In Jacksonville the today's temperatures were 4 degrees below average.
Record temperatures for Tuesday include:
Low - 29F (1954)
High - 87F (1950)

The full moon officially was November 2, 2009. But tonight's moon showed a brightness comparable to the Harvest Moon of October 11. Here is a picture submitted by Sarah in Macclenny.

We will be watching the tropics through the weekend. With an area of broad low pressure located in the extreme southwestern Caribbean. This area has been designated Invest97L. The GFS, UKMET and others are bringing an area of disturbed weather out of the Caribbean into the Gulf of Mexico early next week. We will continue to monitor this for tropical cyclone development, and follow the National Hurricane Center for official information if development does occur.
